Increase in Births from Unwed Mothers

Published by admin under Pregnancy

The Centers for Disease Control has reported that nearly 40% of the babies born in the US in 2007 were from single moms.  This is a 26% increase since 2002, with a number that has more than doubled since 1980.

Of these unmarried mothers, the majority were in their 20’s and 30’s.  Some believe this may be due to the fact that there is less of a stigma attached to unmarried mothers.  Furthermore, many couples are waiting to be wed while some single women are choosing to become mothers.  Do you think that unmarried Hollywood moms are influencing young women across America?

High GI Foods May Cause Baby Weight Gain and Childhood Obesity

Published by admin under Pregnancy

picture of donutFirst of all, what is a GI food?  It is a food that is high on the glycaemic index.  On this list?  Chocolate, white bread, white rice, donuts… all the “good” stuff.

Foods are given high GI levels if they result in a quick rise in blood sugar.  Foods with sugar and starch are usually high on this list.

Animal studies indicate the possibility that women who eat high GI foods in their last trimester may result in a heavier baby who can be more prone to childhood obesity.

Low GI foods include fish, meat, fruit, vegetables and milk.  As always, watch what you eat during pregnancy, skipping the white bread and yes, the chocolate.  This is especially true in your third trimester!
